Malcolm X and Puerto Ricans

Since it’s still Black history month, I figured I’d share a little document from my archive. This is from the Young Lords’ newspaper, Palante, Volume 2, Issue 1, February 1970. The piece underscores coalitional politics and possibilities between black and brown radicals … lessons it seems like we keep having to relearn.

This an other documents are available in my edited book, The Young Lords: A Reader (NYU Press, 2010).

  1. So true, so true. There’s much history that has been forgotten. I remember, when I was growing up in Puerto Rico, listening to Malcom X’s speeches. These helped me understand much of my location as a blue collar, black Puerto Rican.

The times, certainly call for a renewal of coalitional political.
